Athlete of the Week
On Wednesday, April 23rd, Channel 4 was at the high school to honor Matt Hudak for his accomplishments in tennis and in the classroom!

All State Chorus
Our high school student, Andrea Palmer placed 1st out of 30 students in her section. She now qualifies for the Mid-East Choral Festival next spring in Providence, Rhode Island. This is a wonderful honor for Andrea and Penn-Trafford.

Middle School Winter Guard Wins TRWEA Championships
The Penn-Trafford Middle School Winter Guard placed 1st in the Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association (TRWEA) Championships held on April 5th at Gateway High School. The guard was truly "fabulous"! The girls performed quite well and were very excited about their performance. The received a score of 93.1.

At the awards ceremony, as well as being awarded the 1st place honor in the Middle School classification, the Penn-Trafford Middle School Guard won the TRWEA "Fan Favorite" award! This is one (1) award that is presented amongst the 47 units in the association. When they announced this award, the crowd went crazy. They truly did think that the Middle School Guard was their favorite!

Pittsburgh Technical Institute's Visions & Voices 2008 Winners

This year it showcased 710 entries and honored 38 winners. Two of our high school students received honors.
Nick Conti received an Honorable Mention for "Butterflies" in Photography. Santiago Alvarez won Best of Category
for "Graffiti" in Computer Graphics.

WCGC Creative Writing Competition
On Friday, Feb.29, Middle School Spectrum students who had mailed entries to the WCGC Creative writing competition traveled to Greater Latrobe Center for Student Creativity to receive their awards. The seminar included creating a poem or story from an unexpected prompt then meeting with a high school honors student to discuss and critique their work. Trafford's eighth grader Alex Hogan received first place in the poetry division while Penn's
Stephanie Vereb, also an eighth grader, received second place. In the prose division, Penn's Kristen Miller, sixth grader received second place.

Photography Contest
Recently submitted photographs to a contest sponsored by Belle Vernon Schools, the middle Schools and the high school traveled to Greater Latrobe's Center for Student Creativity. The following students were given awards:

Chris Siergiej - 1st place for 10th grade for pan action & Peer award for 10th grade pan action
Jon Miller - 3rd place for 10th grade for nature's display
Amanda Siergiej - 3rd place for 12th grade for nature's display & 3rd place for 12th grade for pan action

Penn Middle
Kristen Miller- 1st place and best of show for Nature's Display & 1st place and student choice award for Four or More Legs
Royse Bachtel- 2nd place for Four or More Legs

Trafford Middle
Mary Taylor- 2nd place and student choice award for Nature's Display & 2nd place and student choice award for Four or More Legs

Academic Quiz News
Junior Varsity Academic Quiz Team placed 2nd at a tournament at Mt. Pleasant High School. Members were Max Fogle, Becca Johnson, Jon Miller, Alex Pingel, Zach O'Connor, and Cory Thomas.

Varsity Academic Quiz Team placed 3rd in the regular season. Members were Carly Kammenzind, Laura Daverio, Amanda Lindgren, Garry Smyda, Blaise Thomas, Hannah Giacomin, and
Oakes Salancy.

The team placing 2nd at the Calcusolve Competition at Franklin Regional High School were Garry Smyda, Dan Wrobel, Jordan Jupena, Ryan McGowan, and Zach Rinker.
