Level Green Elementary Welcomes Baby Chicks

The first graders at Level Green Elementary School received three dozen fertilized eggs from ‘Rise and Shine Farm’ while learning about the life cycle of chickens during their final month of school.  There were eggs from seven different breeds of chickens.  “We were so excited to see how different they all looked once they hatched,” said first-grade teacher Mrs. Giovannitti.  The students enjoyed checking the eggs in the incubator, journaling their observations, and then watching the chicks hatch in the classroom.

“We had so many students from other grade levels visiting our classrooms,” commented Kristy Giovannitti.  “All the students in the building were so excited to see and hold the chicks,”

During the stay, the students watched the chicks eat, drink water, snuggle together, and grow stronger each day.  After caring for the chicks for four days, the babies were taken to experience life on the farm.
