5th-Graders Enjoy Solving Mystery Crime Activity

In Miss Pratt’s reading class at Sunrise Estates Elementary School, students enjoyed playing sleuths in a mystery crime activity in late October.

The 5th-graders were asked to make inferences using interviews and text message conversations between six suspects who attended a dinner party where the crime took place.   The students worked in groups to read through all the information and make inferences to send in a final accusation of who committed the crime before time ran out.

“Days before the mystery crime activity, the students took it upon themselves to plan different items to bring in to dress as detectives and decorate the room as a crime scene,” commented Miss Pratt.  “They were so excited, they didn’t even realize they were practicing making inferences like we had just done in class!”
