PT Teachers Sharpen Skills

While students enjoyed a day off of school on Monday, February 21, teachers of the Penn-Trafford School District reported to work for a professional development day.  The purpose of such days is to give educators an opportunity to learn new directives, brush up on skills, and discuss new ideas with peers.

A flurry of educational sessions took place all across the district.  At Penn Middle School, the staff of Serenity Hill Counseling & Wellness led a session dealing with student trauma and de-escalation techniques.  At the High School, school nurses Lisa Popovich and Michelle Stukus provided CPR/AED training for all staff whose certifications would soon expire.  Departmental meetings were held throughout the day.  To wrap up the day’s activities, Officers Blake Danowski and Dave Myers of the Penn Township Police provided training for all staff on active shooter response.

School Superintendent, Dr. Matthew Harris, was pleased with the development opportunities presented.  “We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated staff,” he commented.  “They always show up with an eagerness to learn and share.”
