To help her students at McCullough Elementary School develop a love for reading, Mrs. Lisa Konopka submitted a grant proposal to the DonorsChoose crowdfunding platform. She requested a classroom set of flashlights as well as new books to engage her 2nd-grade students in “Flashlight Fridays.”
The DonorsChoose community responded, pledging over $500 to support the grant. Now, Mrs. Konopka’s students receive a small flashlight, a book of their choice, a quiet comfortable spot, and 20 minutes to read every Friday.
