First-graders love recess, especially when they can get some fresh air outside on the school playground. Unfortunately, the climate in Western Pennsylvania isn’t always conducive to outdoor recess.
Mrs. Diana Hlavsa, a teacher at Level Green Elementary School wanted to ensure that her students have a selection of indoor games for rainy, cold, and snowy days. The DonorsChoose crowdfunding platform fulfilled her grant request, providing an assortment of board games for Hlavsa’s classroom.
“We are working hard for most of the day and recess gives the students a time to have fun and socialize with each other,” said Hlavsa. “The new games are helping my students learn to make friends, share with others, problem solve, negotiate, and other social skills that they will use their entire lives.”
