Level Green Elementary Welcomes Baby Chicks

The first graders at Level Green Elementary School received three dozen fertilized eggs from ‘Rise and Shine Farm’ while learning about the life cycle of a chicken during their final month of school.  The students enjoyed checking the eggs in the incubator, journaling their observations, then watching the chicks hatch in the classroom.

After caring for the chicks for five days, the babies were taken back to the farm to live out their lives. During the stay, the students watched the chicks eat, drink water, snuggle together and grow bigger and stronger with each passing day. “We were all really sad to see them go,” commented Mrs. Shogan.  “This was an amazing experience for the first graders. The students had a great experience learning about the life cycle of a chicken that they will never forget.”
