Veteran’s Program Celebrates Local Heros

McCullough Elementary School held a Veteran's Day Program on November 9 to both educate the students and honor some local heroes.

Twenty-three veterans -- all family members of McCullough students – joined the student body for the annual program.  Principal Mr. Marasti provided a warm welcome to the veteran guests, who were proudly escorted into the assembly by their students.

The students heard about the importance of the holiday and also some first-hand stories from the guests.  The fifth-graders were given prepared questions to ask before the program, and the veterans graciously provided answers and spoke about their experiences.

Students were very excited to celebrate school custodians Mr. Brian McDonough and Mr. Bob Zilen, who both served in the armed forces. “The kids were cheering and clapping so loud when Mr. Marasti told them they see veterans in school each day!,” commented PTO President Kristen Weiss. “You could tell that it really meant a lot to them.”
