Sixth-Graders Conduct Colorful Candy Experiment

Mrs. Watt’s sixth-grade science students at Trafford Middle School recently conducted an experiment using M&M candies to study the effects of temperature on dissolving.

Students placed the candies in hot, cold, and room-temperature water, then recorded their observations. Students made predictions, collected data, compared results, and were able to see how different water temperatures affected the candies, causing the “M” to separate from the surface. “It was a colorful way to practice scientific inquiry,” commented Mrs. Watt.
