Students Observe Butterfly Life Cycle

Third graders at Trafford Elementary School have kicked off their school year in Mr. Bujdos’ science class by studying the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. This hands-on tradition allows students to observe one of nature’s most remarkable transformations up close.

This year’s study included more than two dozen caterpillars, with several donated by former fourth-grade teacher Dave Nigro. Students observed the caterpillars feeding on milkweed before they entered the chrysalis stage. Some students were fortunate enough to see a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis.

Over the past few weeks, many of the Monarchs have been released outdoors, beginning their long journey to Mexico.
