During a remote instruction day last year, Penn-Trafford High School Principal Tony Aquilio reflected on how today’s students weren’t experiencing the “old-fashioned” snow days that many teachers remembered growing up.
“Students were missing the joy of having an unexpected day off, which was usually spent going outside and enjoying the snow with friends,” Aquilio said.
To bring some of that fun back, Aquilio launched a Snowman Contest, which drew more than 50 individual and group submissions in its first year. The response was so positive that when a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) was called in January, he decided to make the contest an annual tradition.
This year’s contest generated hundreds of votes, with just two votes separating first and second place. The following students will receive prizes for their winning snowmen:
1st Place: Sydney Hand and Brody Parsons
2nd Place: Hannah Wagner
3rd Place: Joe Lehman
4th Place: Jenna Fait and Lydia Grant
