First-Graders Receive Handwashing Lesson

At Sunrise Elementary School, first graders recently learned the importance of proper handwashing during a lesson with school nurse Laurie Donatelli. Nurse Donatelli demonstrated correct handwashing techniques and explained how washing hands helps keep everyone healthy.

To reinforce the lesson, student volunteers used “glow germ,” a special lotion that simulates germs. After washing their hands, the students placed them under a black light to see how well they had cleaned them.  The activity helped students understand the areas that are often missed and encouraged good hygiene habits.
