At Penn Middle School, seventh-grade art students in Mrs. Christoforetti’s class recently completed basket-weaving projects, concluding a hands-on unit that combined art history, craftsmanship, and creative problem-solving.
Throughout the project, students learned traditional weaving techniques, focusing on structure, pattern, and craftsmanship. Using over-under weaving methods, they transformed simple materials into sturdy, functional baskets. In the process, students explored how basket weaving has been an important art form across many cultures, for both practical and decorative purposes.
“Weaving requires focus and attention to detail,” shared Mrs. Christoforetti. “The students really showed growth - not just artistically, but in their ability to stick with something challenging.”
