Students from the Penn-Trafford High School Chain Reaction Team competed on February 27 alongside 31 other teams from the Pittsburgh area. The competition challenged students to design and build a chain reaction machine that completed the task of “planting a seed” in at least 20 steps.
The Penn-Trafford team successfully designed a project that completed the task in 24 steps. Each step triggered the next in a sequence of mechanical actions that ultimately resulted in planting the seed.
The team received the “Most Green” award for their creative use of repurposed and recycled materials throughout the project.
The team was guided by teacher Mrs. Christina Wukich and mentor Mr. Mark Romeo.
