‘Datzner Diner’ Brings Math Lessons to Penn Middle

At Penn Middle School, Dr. Katie Datz and Mrs. Brittany Ruffner hosted an engaging lesson designed to reinforce key mathematics concepts in preparation for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA).

In early April, the “Datzner Diner” lesson transformed the classroom into a 1950s-themed diner, where seventh-grade students participated in interactive, real-world math applications. Throughout the activity, students practiced calculating tips, taxes, and discounts - skills aligned with PSSA objectives.

“Through the Datzner Diner math activity, students are building real-world problem-solving skills, strengthening their confidence, and sharpening the exact thinking they need to succeed on the PSSAs,”  commented Datz.
